My latest post at CRN.Info, much older than you thought.  Here’s a peek:

[Legalism] wasn’t invented in the 1950s by some preacher to keep his people from going to see Doris Day movies.

As usual, my post title here tells you pretty much nothing about my post there.

back in your ears

Posted by: Brendt    in podcast, theological raves

Well, I’m resurrecting the podcast. It’ll be shorter and only one topic at a time. And a new name. (Gotten listen to find out.)

Also instituting a new feature within some episodes of the podcast — Sermon Snippets — where there will be guest appearances (unbeknownst to the guest) on the podcast.

Note: For Sermon Snippets, I’ll only be reproducing small pieces of stuff that’s freely available online. So, I think this falls within “fair use”. If a copyright owner has an objection, just let me know, and I’ll gladly take it down.

Today’s Sermon Snippet is from my pastor, Jaca Kier. The complete message from which the snippet is taken from can be found here: Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph

Let me know what you think of the new edition of the podcast (and this one in particular).

(I actually recorded this shortly before Christmas, but the concept is applicable year-round.)

(not that you needed any)

OK, admittedly, online quizzes can be hilariously inaccurate. I found this one to be hilarious due to its possible accuracy.

In a quiz called “What’s your theological worldview?”, my foremost rating came in at 68% (certainty, I guess) on Reformed Evangelical. No big surprise there, if you know anything about me.

There were two that came in tied for 2nd with 64% (pretty much right behind #1). The funny part? One of the two is Emergent/Postmodern.

For those of you that think that two such categories cannot possibly co-exist, have no fear. I’m sure that Steve Camp will be along any minute to explain to you that I clearly lied regarding the questions that went toward Reformed Evangelical.

HT to BHT for the link to the quiz.

YSILT

Posted by: Brendt    in cool stuff, humor (arr, arr)

The YSILT is a very important award. I bestow it very rarely, because I do not wish to diminish its value. But I gave one today, and was later inspired to create a button so that the bearer could “proudly” display his/her win. And so, here’s the button:

YSILT button

To my knowledge, I’ve only given this award twice since hitting the blogosphere. The current winners are:

  1. Dluxe for his comment on this post.
  2. Julie for the creation of her “watch out for Julie” page.

I’ll be emailing the winners their own copies of the button, so if they want to display it on their blog, they can do so. As I bestow the award to others, I will update this post.  If I’ve given you a YSILT award, and forgot, just let me know.

Oh, you wanna know what YSILT means?

You’re Sick. I Like That.

not surprising

Randy AlcornMy latest contribution to CRN.Info starts this way:

It is rumored that the next edition of Webster’s Dictionary will have a picture of Randy Alcorn next to the definition for “gracious”. If the rumor isn’t true, it ought to be.

In the post, I reflect on Alcorn’s gracious response to a rather flaky definition of heaven. We would do well to learn from this man.

part of the constituency?

Posted by: Brendt    in media, political rants

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was murdered yesterday. The presidential candidates, of course, weighed in with their opinions.

Interestingly, Barack Obama referenced Bhutto’s “death” — the apparent implication being that she died of natural causes shortly after the coincidental bullets and bomb. Admittedly, he did state that the U.S. needs to stand behind those who support democracy, but made no statement that one could possibly use to infer that her “death” and the battle over democracy had any connection with each other.

Wouldn’t want to offend any of those terrorists.

misheard lyrics

Posted by: Brendt    in humor (arr, arr), nostalgia

There are plenty of misheard lyrics, The first few that I heard were hymn-related:

- Gladly, the Cross-Eyed Bear
- Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me

My favorite of secular songs has to be the homeowner’s directions to his guest in CCR’s “Bad Moon Rising”:

There is a bathroom on the right.

But one occured to me the other day that comes from my childhood:

Later on we’ll perspire / As we dream by the fire

To which I would wonder why they were sitting so close.

(Yeah, it’s lame, but you got a post on Christmas Day.)

which will it be?

For fellow baby busters, this video will probably be a nice little childhood memory. Or it may be “aaaaugh, now I’ve got that song stuck in my head”.

For me, it was both when someone made a passing reference to a small part of the song today. I guess the only way to know your reaction is to look.

(insert evil laugh here)
